Trying really hard with your diet and not seeing results?

One of the things I notice a lot in my nutrition work is that people TRY really hard to do the right thing.

You are making intentional choices.

But it’s not working for some reason and then you get frustrated and give up.

Understandable.

Here’s a perfect example from a client this week and how we worked through it.

Here is what he had planned for breakfast:

Things to note:

  • There is NOTHING wrong with any one of these ingredients.
  • This is well balanced! Robust protein, fat, fiber, carbs – GOOD!
  • I put a red box around some of the things I wanted to draw to his attention – just simply for neutral facts and awareness.
  • He has a goal of weight loss and building muscle.

Here is an alternative version I offered:

Things to note:

  • He is still getting the “PB&J smoothie” he was looking forward to.
  • We made a simple swap from actual peanut butter –> peanut butter powder.
  • We actually INCREASED the chia seeds (more fiber).
  • Took out the date (nothing wrong with a date! Love dates).
  • We decreased the frozen fruit from 1 C to 1/2 C.
  • Maintained the fiber content.
  • And decreased the calories by nearly 200 kcal.

This version is freeing up 200 kcal for him to either use in other meals or snacks OR not to be replaced to support weight loss efforts.

This is a perfect example of how changes can be made in a sustainable way. We didn’t take anything away. We just adjusted it to make it work.

One option would be to tell you “This smoothie is too many calories. You can’t have it.”

This creates a sense of restriction and we have all been there.

It doesn’t work.

Instead, with some small adjustments…VOILA! A perfectly aligned delicious smoothie that you’re super excited about and is aligned with your goals.

That is the gift of personalized nutrition.

If you see yourself in this client’s shoes…reach out! Let’s see what meaningful tweaks and changes we can make for you too.
