There isn’t a lot of “black and white” in nutrition but this one little nugget is probably a close bet that it’ll apply to you no matter what!

BUT FIRST! A little love from Bryan, the trainers, and I from our 2-years-in-Blagden-Alley anniversary party this weekend!

Gut Rest

Your gut needs a rest just like you do!

We often think about the GI system as just “top to bottom”. Food comes in one end and ends up at the other end.

Bu how does it make its way through all the little twists and turns of the intestines?

The Migrating Motor Complex

The MMC is a system that sort of “sweeps” through the gut and moves food along.

The MMC turns off when you eat.

This is where the need for gut rest comes into play.

Ironically, taking a rest from eating = allowing the gut to do the deeper work.

You want 3-4 hours of gut rest between meals.

“I can only eat many small meals a day because I get full quickly”:

First of all, you may deserve a closer look at why that is the case. But in the meantime, use “windows” of eating and “windows” of gut rest!

Example:

7am-10am: eating window

10am -1pm: gut rest

1pm-3pm: eating window

3pm-6pm: gut rest

6pm-9pm: eat window

9pm-overnight: gut rest

Try this one little tip out and see if you notice positive changes in your digestion and bowel movements!
